Winter Shelter
Who We Are
Every night from November 1st to April 30th, shelter guests are provided a warm bed, home cooked meal, and showers if available. Our capacity is 70 beds per night.
We utilize volunteers to create meals, serve meals, clean, monitor showers, assist with up-keep, and work one-on-one with guests for linkage to needed services. The quantity and quality of our volunteers drives a successful shelter night.
What We Do
If your group plans to cover a whole night, please contact our Operations Team Chair, Janice Ostock at jostock@bes-inc.org, so that the volunteer positions will be made available for your group to sign up.
- Please be aware that your group could be planning for up to 70 guests plus staff. Daily census can be found on the home page of our website.
- Meals can be prepared in an Off-site inspected kitchen (for example a church kitchen that has been inspected by the department of health) or in the BES kitchen.
Volunteer opportunities posted "Community Night" are for individual volunteers not serving as a group to allow folks from the community to volunteer.
Volunteers under 18 must bring their own legal guardian and have them present at all times when volunteering. Volunteers must be 14 years or older to serve unless noted in the description. Please see BES Age Policy for details.
All volunteers must check in and out of the volunteer computer or via phone app with "Cause Connect".
Please see the "Volunteer Resources" section of our website for information on what is already provided in our kitchen. All volunteers are required to have a volunteer account with Galaxy Digital as this is how BES is keeping track of documentation and needed waivers.
